One Hyde Park is London’s most exclusive apartment complex. Located in Knightsbridge, the apartment complex offers incredible views. To the front is Knightsbridge, a bustling area of London’s rich, while at the rear is the far calmer Hyde Park.
THE HISTORY OF ONE HYDE PARK
Construction on One Hyde Park started in 2007 and was completed by 2009. A joint venture between the Christian Candy owned CPC Group and Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar.
Fitting out the interior of the building started in April 2009. By August 2010 it was rumored that one of the apartments had already sold for £140 million. Making it the most expensive residential property in Britain at that time. A new entrance to Knightsbridge tube station was also completed soon after.
It was then announced that McLaren, Rolex, and the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank had taken up retail space in the building.
Also in the building is a communal swimming pool, cinema, library, entertainment suite, golf simulator, and a spa run by the Mandarin Oriental.
With so many rich and powerful people residing in the building, it’s probably not surprising to find out the building has insane security. This includes bulletproof glass, panic rooms, and British SAS trained security.
While there is no complete list of residents, what we do know is that the Candy brothers and the Sheik own a number of apartments in the building. Nick Candy, the husband of actress Holly Valance, owns the duplex penthouse apartment. Christian Candy has two apartments. While the Sheik owns the triplex, which Vanity Fair calls “the best apartment of all”.
Another two apartments are owned by Professor Wong Wen Young, the Taiwanese business tycoon. Nigerian billionaire businesswoman Folounsho Alakija is thought to have purchased several apartments. While international pop star Kylie Minogue also owns a three-bedroom apartment in the building.
ONE HYDE PARK TODAY
One Hyde Park continues to be the most exclusive apartment building in London. In 2018 it was assumed Nick Candy had sold his duplex apartment. However, it turns out he was simply remortgaging it and placing it under his company’s name as he looks to let it out.
The Land Registry figures show the property changing hands at £160 million ($210 million), the most expensive property sold in the world during 2018. The rental of the penthouse apartment is set at £500,000 per month.
Nick and his wife Holly moved out of the apartment and into Gordon House. A historic run-down building in the heart of Chelsea with a four-acre garden. Development of Gordon House will see it feature Britains largest basement, complete with cinema, bowling alley and more.
It is believed that once the building is complete, Gordon House could be valued at even more than the penthouse apartment at One Hyde Park, With some expecting it to be valued at between £200 and £250 million.
