Cromwell Tower is a former water tower located in Burton Green, near Kenilworth, England. This unique tower was in use up until 2004, before finally being decommissioned and left unused for many years.

Thankfully, buyers with great vision for what the tower could possibly become managed to purchase the property at a knock-down price in 2012.

While it may look like a Bond villains lair at night, the property is now truly amazing!

THE HISTORY OF CROMWELL TOWER

Originally built in 1930, Cromwell Tower is a large water tower that stands out among the typical village houses that surround it. Known by local residents as “Kenilworth’s second castle” (Kenilworth does actually have a real castle), the tower went on the market in 20o4 after it was decommissioned.

Between 2004 and 2012 the tower remained on the market, finally selling in 2012 for just £25,000, down from its original asking price of over £300,000.

In the photos above you can see a huge difference that has been made. The new owners giving the tower a paint job while also adding windows and doors in 2016, turning the tower into a unique home.

In 2019 the property went back on the market, this time for a whopping £1.5 million.

CROMWELL TOWER TODAY

Below are the photos from the 2019 listing of the property. The first time the property has been on the market since its conversion from a water tower to a house in 2016.

The ground floor of Cromwell Tower opens into a reception room that features the original cast-iron spiral staircase. The doors that lead off the reception lead to a small gym, washroom, large games room, and a boiler room.

Many of the original features from the water tower still remain inside the property, including the staircase, valves, and the original water tank.

The master bedroom suite boasts a sitting room, dressing room, and en-suite bathroom. It could almost be used as an entirely self-contained apartment if they added a kitchen area.

Cromwell Tower has five other bedrooms spread across numerous floors, two of which also come with ensuites. Plenty of rooms to chop and change, possibly converting one into a home office or even a cinema room?

One of the floors that have yet to reach its full potential is the top floor. The 3,272 square-foot old tank room is a blank canvas with plenty of space to get creative. Cinema room, large gym, more bedrooms, man cave, the options are endless for this space!

The roof is another large space that the owners have yet to get creative with. Hot tub, bar, BBQ, seating areas, another space that has endless opportunities. Unfortunately, the English weather means it won’t get quite as much use as it might in warmer climates.

However, you do get stunning 360-degree views of the beautiful English countryside that surrounds it.

It’s fair to say the current owners have done an incredible job with Cromwell Tower. Turning the property from a disused water tower into a stunning home that anybody would be happy to live in…if you don’t mind a lot of stairs.

A lift shaft has actually been created by the owners, however, no actual lift/elevator has yet to be installed. At £1.5 million, Cromwell Tower actually feels like a bit of a bargain, with all that living space, and room for more creativity on the fourth floor and roof, who wouldn’t want to live in a house like this?
