Historic Pre-Civil War Home In Jonesborough

THE HISTORY OF FEBUARY HILL

Built in 1832 by Congressman John Blair, this stunning property sits on 4 acres of land in the heart of Jonesborough, Tennessee’s oldest town.

The next owner of the property was Brigadier General Reuben Frank Bernard who served in the civil war. He had the reputation of being one of the “bravest and most efficient Apache fighters in the Army”.

General Reuben Frank Bernard

By the time his military career was over in 1896, Bernard had been involved in 103 actions against Indians and Confederates.

After General Barnard, the property was bought by Dominique (Fevrier) Febuary. It was reported that the money for the property was given to him by fellow tailor Andrew Johnson, the 17th President of the United States.

The property would then pass down through several generations of Febuary’s, with the property becoming known as “Febuary Hill”. Ultimately, the home would end up in the hands of new owners, not related to the Febuary’s.

It was after the Febuary family left that new owners carried out extensive restorations and renovations. While much of the property has been modernized, such as adding a 4 car garage, the property still retains much of its original charm.

In more recent years the property has been used as a bed and breakfast. It is also a popular location for Appalachian Ghost Walks. The property sold in September 2019, fetching a price of $699,900.
