If you’re a Tottenham Hotspur fan, then you’ll probably want to stop reading! For the rest of us though, the idea of living at Highbury Square in an iconic Premier League football stadium in north London is probably quite appealing, especially if you’re an Arsenal fan…
The History Of Highbury Square
Highbury Square now sits in what was once Arsenal’s iconic Highbury Stadium in the London Borough of Islington. The stadium began life in 1913 and was used by Arsenal FC up until 2006 when the team moved to the Emirates Stadium, just a few hundred meters away.
After Highbury Stadium closed, Arsenal held an auction selling off pieces of the pitch, the goalposts, the desk of ex-coach George Graham, and many other pieces. However, plans to sell the seats of the stadium were canceled when they were found to have traces of the toxic metal cadmium.
In 2009, four years after the Arsenal Stadium closed, the stadium was redeveloped into 711 properties, known as ‘Highbury Square’. The development transformed the old stadium into a modern residential complex consisting of apartments, penthouses, and maisonettes while preserving the architectural legacy of the original structure.
Highbury Square Today
During the redevelopment in 2010, the East and West stands were turned into luxury apartments, while the old North Bank and Clock Tower stands were demolished (to the annoyance of many Arsenal fans) to make way for new residential buildings that blend in with the original structures.
In the center of the four residential buildings, where the Arsenal pitch once was, is now a communal garden for residents of Highbury Square.
Apartments and penthouses at Highbury Square currently range from anywhere between £400k and £1.5 million. The maisonette below is one of the more expensive properties in the development.
From the balcony, you can see the very location where the only ever ‘Invincible’ season took place…
